Neon Bull is a hybrid documentary of realism, surreal horseplay and erotica.

The film is set behind the scenes of the “vaquejada”, a Brazilian form of rodeo that involves grabbing bulls by the tail. A world away from most audiences, Neon Bull follows the story of Iremar, a handsome bull handler who feeds, preps and takes care of the bulls, despite it being dusty and back-breaking work.

Swinging from his hammock in the back of the truck, his head is filled with dreams of pattern cutting, sequins and exquisite fabrics. Iremar finds an outlet for his creativity making custom horse masks and provocative outfits for Galega, the group’s driver who moonlights as a dancer in a horse mask on a stage bathed in red light.

“A “neon bull” is something that could be part of a dream, but it’s also something strong and physical. It’s the junction between the culture of spectacle of the contemporary world, and also the culture of a geopolitical body that can question the system.”- Movie Maker
