One of our all-time favourite action films is the South Korean 2003 classic Old Boy, which launched the career of director Park Chan-wook and has a cult following around the world.
But with international cinematic success comes the inevitable Hollywood remake – the question always being: can it live up to the original?
Today the poster for the 2013 US remake of Old Boy was released, featuring the tally score of Joe’s 20 years in solitary confinement. The new film is set to be directed by Spike Lee, famous for Do The Right Thing and other films that explore race relations in tense urban settings. It will be interesting to see what he brings to the table as an action director.
The film stars Josh Brolin as the kidnapped advertising exec Joe, alongside Elizabeth Olsen.
