World Movies has pushed forward the encore screening of My Tehran for Sale, so that Australians have a chance to see the film at the centre of international news, after Iranian actress Marzieh Vafamehr was charged with jail time and 90 lashes for her performance. See more on the story here.
My Tehran for Sale was first screened on World Movies in January 2011 after premiering at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2009. The film tells the story of an young actress in Iran, played by Vafamehr, whose theatre work is banned by authorities. It is a powerful and thought-provoking story of a young woman forced to lead a secret life in order to express herself artistically.
The feature was written and directed by Granaz Moussavi, and marks the first co-production between Iran and Australia.
