As the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) draws to a close this week, take a second to take note of some of the stand-out foreign films coming to cinemas soon.

The much-anticipated film Here stars Ben Foster, who you might remember as the mesmerisingly war-ravaged returned soldier in The Messenger alongside Woody Harrelson. In this travelogue drama, he plays a cartographer travelling through Armenia who meets a photographer on a similar journey.

Also coming to cinemas soon is the festival closing night film, Drive, a homage to US crime films from the late 70’s. Ryan Gosling plays a professional stunt driver by day and a getaway driver by night in this neo-noir heist film turned high-octane chase film.

Finally the stunning Russian domestic drama Elena conjures an uncompromising vision of a Russia in moral disarray. Winner of the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at Cannes, Elena dotes on her wealthy husband and lives a lonely sterile existence in her ultra-modern penthouse.
