This touching Brazilian drama by co-directors Walter Salles and Daniela Thomas focuses on four brothers’ desperate attempts to rise out of the poverty of Sao Paulo’s concrete slums with the odds stacked decidedly against them.
Dario (Vinicius de Oliveira) sees football as his ticket out, but at 18 he’s already considered too old to make the top grade. His brother, Denis (Joao Baldasserini), risks his life daily as a motorcycle courier, while Dinho (Jose Geraldo Rodrigues) pours his energy into a local church. The youngest, Reginaldo (Kaique Jesus Santos), listlessly rides the city’s buses begging for driving lessons.
