The 2011 Venice International Film Festival starts today! The Festival will open with the highly anticipated new film written & directed by George Clooney, The Ides of March. The full list of feature films in this year’s competition is well worth a look.
World Movies picks are…
David Cronenberg’s film A Dangerous Mind, starring Keira Knightley, Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender and Vincent Casse.
Drawn from true-life events, the film takes a glimpse into the turbulent relationships among fledgling psychiatrist Carl Jung, his mentor Sigmund Freud and Sabina Spielrein – the troubled but beautiful young woman who comes between them.
Abel Ferrara’s film 4:44 Last Day on Earth, starring Willem Dafoe, Shanyn Leigh, Paz de la Huerta and Natasha Lyonne.
In a large apartment high above the city lives a couple. They’re in love. She’s a painter; he’s a successful actor. Just a normal afternoon – except that this isn’t a normal afternoon, for them or anyone else. Because tomorrow, at 4:44 am, give or take a few seconds, the world will come to an end far more rapidly than even the worst doomsayer could have imagined.
World Movies are celebrating the festival with Eight Days of Italy – from this Sunday 4 September; eight days of beautiful Italian films and exclusive coverage from The 2011 Venice International Film Festival with Jonathan Ross.
PLUS, Italy can come to you with the opening of the Lavazza Italian Film Festival 2011 in Melbourne this month. Keep an eye on the World Movies Facebook and Twitter pages over the next week for ticket giveaways.
