Monica Ali’s novel of the same name was short-listed for the 2003 Booker Prize, and director Sarah Gavron has faithfully crafted a delicate film version of this important journey into the modern-day arranged marriages of India.

At 17, Nazneen (Tannishtha Chatterjee) was forced to leave her village to take up residence in a London housing estate as the reluctant wife of Chanu (Satish Kaushik). However, in the wake of 9/11, Nazneen is inspired to rebel against the oppressive will of her overbearing husband.
